Solution
Kaku selected the TVS-h1288X, a 12-bay NAS with Intel® Xeon® W processor, as his solution. He valued both speed and data safety, so he set up RAID 5 configuration to prevent data loss in the event of drive failure. The TVS-h1288X also uses QuTS hero, a ZFS-based operating system that prioritizes data security. This NAS also comes with two 10GbE and four 2.5GbE ports as standard for high-speed network connectivity. A Thunderbolt™ 3 expansion card QXP-T32P (sold separately) was installed in the PCIe slot to enable high-speed data transfer for Mac® devices.
Results
With the high-performance TVS-h1288X, Kaku can import eight channels of multi-camera RAW recordings shot using a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K to the NAS while editing and grading a full-resolution RAW data in real time with DaVinci Resolve. As centralized storage, the TVS-h1288X allows both Mac® and Windows® workstation users to improve collaboration and productivity while transferring high-resolution recordings via high-speed network ports. The TVS-h1288X has dedicated cooling for both the CPU and storage drives, ensuring that all aspects of the system are kept cool even under high load from editing workflows. Kaku backs up data from TVS-h1288X to his several QNAP Thunderbolt™ 3 NAS, including the TVS-1282T that he previously used. He is happy that archiving data has been greatly simplified, as he previously spent a lot of time backing up data to tapes, which he rarely accessed, but now he can switch data sets by simply replacing the entire hard drive. His workflows have been streamlined, and Kaku is satisfied with the results.
